Key Factors for Successful CTOs

What Sets Successful Technology Decision-Makers at Energy Grid Operators Apart Today!
17 CTOs-including 8 CTOs from Germany's 10 largest energy grid operators-spoke with us.

The energy transition is fundamentally changing the grid operator market and placing CTOs at the forefront of the transformation toward a sustainable, decentralized, and interconnected energy grid in Germany. How are technology decision-makers addressing the challenges that arise in this process?

The 4C study "Key Factors for Successful CTOs" provides detailed insights, based on structured interviews, into how successful CTOs at Germany's largest energy grid operators work:

4C Study: Key Factors for Successful CTOs

The energy transition will be decided largely within the power grids. Grid operators must integrate renewable energy, expand and digitize their infrastructure, ensure security of supply, and at the same time navigate increasing investment pressures, skilled labor shortages, and regulatory complexity. The CTO plays a central leadership and shaping role in this process: He links technological decisions with strategic management and creates the conditions necessary for grid operators to remain capable of delivering performance and driving transformation in the long term.
We therefore asked ourselves: What makes CTOs at German energy grid operators successful?

To find well-founded answers, we analyzed the profiles of 121 CTOs from Germany's largest energy grid operators and conducted 17 interviews with CTOs and technical managing directors.
